FAQs

I'm not sure which service my project falls under. Where do I start?

Start with a conversation rather than a category. Plenty of projects don't fit neatly into one bucket — a failing deck might be a structural repair, an outdoor build, or both. Tell us what you're trying to accomplish and we'll tell you which scope it actually is, including if that turns out to be smaller than you expected.

Can one project combine more than one of these services?

Frequently, yes. Dry rot found during a remodel becomes structural repair work. A home addition often brings hardscaping and a new deck with it. Running the combined scope under one licensed contractor means one permit strategy, one schedule, and no gaps where two trades each assume the other handled something.

What happens after I first get in touch?

We start with a short call to understand the project, then schedule an on-site visit — most scopes can't be assessed accurately from photos. After the walkthrough you get a written, line-item estimate rather than a single lump-sum number, so you can see what's driving the cost and adjust scope if you want to.

Do you take on smaller projects, or only full builds?

Both, though there is a practical minimum that makes a licensed general contractor the right call versus a handyman. If your project is below that line we'll say so and point you in a better direction — sending you elsewhere costs us nothing and saves you money.

How far ahead should I be planning?

Further than most people expect, and permitting is usually why. In San Francisco and Marin County the approval process routinely takes longer than the construction itself, so a project you want finished by summer generally needs to start moving well before spring. Early conversations cost nothing and protect your timeline.

Who actually does the work on site?

Jerry Lyons runs every project directly — that is the reason the firm is deliberately small. Larger scopes bring in additional crew and specialist trades where the work calls for it, but the person who walked your property and wrote your estimate is the same person managing the build.

Leave us a message and we'll get back to you!
